Problem
Which data is encrypted in Ultrasoft Money 5, and how is it encrypted?

Solution

Install the DataShield add-on (included with Ultrasoft Money 5), and set a password on your handheld to have Ultrasoft Money encrypt the account number, institution name, and note or comment in each account record.

Enable the "Encrypt sensitive information on desktop" option in the Money conduit settings, to have the same information encrypted in the intermediate desktop database that Ultrasoft Money uses to track your changes during synchronization.

If you store your Ultrasoft Money and Microsoft Money passwords in the Money conduit settings, they are scrambled and then encrypted using Microsoft Windows cryptography. The data can be decrypted only by using your Windows logon credentials, and only on the same computer.

The DataShield add-on uses the Rijndael algorithm, adopted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to be the new AES standard for cryptography. AES provides strong encryption with extremely secure protection against cryptanalysis.
