Microsoft® C++ 6.0 Runtime Files (MFC)
The synchronization conduits for Ultrasoft Money versions 1, 2 and 3 were built using Microsoft C++ 6.0, and require the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) version 6 runtime libraries. The conduit for Ultrasoft Money version 4 is not dependent on MFC. If you are using version 1, 2 or 3 and do not have the libraries installed on your computer, or if you have an earlier version, click here to download a copy of the most recent version of MFC from Microsoft's web site. TroubleshootingThe Ultrasoft Money setup program uses the Windows search path (defined by the PATH environment variable) to locate a library file named MFC42.DLL on your system, and checks that the file is version is 6.0 or later. Some badly written setup programs install their own copies of the MFC libraries into your Windows system folder or into another folder in your Windows search path without proper version checking. If you run such a setup program, it may install obsolete versions of the MFC libraries on your system, or remove some of your system's MFC libraries when you uninstall it. If this happens, Ultrasoft Money (and any other programs that require MFC 6) may produce unexpected results, or even crash. You should reinstall MFC as described above. If reinstalling doesn't help, open your System control panel and click the Environment Variables button on the Advanced tab. Take a look at both the user and system PATH variables. Search each folder specified in the PATH variables for a file named MFC42.DLL. If you find such a file, right-click on its icon and open its Properties dialog. Check the Version tab to see if it is older than version 6.0.0.0. Deleting the obsolete copy of MFC42.DLL will probably not be sufficient, as there may be other obsolete MFC files in the folder. Instead, consider removing its folder from the PATH variable, or moving it so it appears after the Windows system32 folder in the list. You may need to reboot your computer for your changes to take effect. Microsoft® Data Access Components (MDAC)
The Microsoft Data Access Components are the key technologies that enable database access on Microsoft Windows. Click here for more information. Ultrasoft Money 3.0 requires that you have MDAC 2.1.1.3711.11 (GA) or later correctly installed on your system. If you are unsure which version of MDAC you have installed, download and run the Component Checker tool from Microsoft's web site. Click here for more information. If you're running Windows 95, MDAC requires that you have the DCOM95 component installed. Click here for more information. TroubleshootingIn most cases, when Ultrasoft Money or its setup program reports that MDAC is missing or corrupt, the problem is caused by one of the following:
Step 1 Visit the Microsoft Windows Update web site, or click here to download a copy of a newer version of MDAC directly from Microsoft's web site. Windows 95 users click here to download a copy of the DCOM95 component. If you don't already have MDAC installed, we recommend that you install MDAC 2.5 SP2 (2.52.6019.2). This version has been known to solve the various MDAC problems that prevent Ultrasoft Money from running. Click here to download this version. On Microsoft's web site, select the appropriate version of MDAC and download it. When prompted, save the file in a temporary folder on your computer. When the download is complete, double-click the file to run the MDAC setup. When MDAC setup is complete, you can delete the downloaded file. Step 2 If installing MDAC 2.5 SP2 does not solve the problem, the most likely cause is that you already have a newer version of MDAC installed on your computer, but it is damaged or missing key components. Microsoft's Component Checker tool can provide more information. Visit Microsoft's web site and install the most recent version of MDAC. You must also install Microsoft Jet 4.0, which is not included in recent MDAC versions. Click here for more information. Step 3 Click here for an in-depth look at MDAC installation and troubleshooting. Step 4 If the previous steps fail to remedy your MDAC problem, your system may have a corrupt Windows registry or more serious problems. You should check your system for virus infection, and you may have to reinstall Microsoft Windows. If necessary, obtain assistance from a computer technician. |
